Beginning in 2010, FD9 has hosted a summer camp for the youth in our district. The FD9 Volunteers as well as full-time firefighters staff the camp. The camp lasts for 4 days normally the 3rd week of June. Our campers learn first-aid, fire safety and participate in all sorts of fun activities including water day on the last day of camp. A graduation dinner is held the last night of camp for campers and their families. Our camp has grown to over 100 participants and gets bigger & better every year.
This program is open to Boys and Girls age 10-18. Although 10 & 11 year old are welcome to apply, we base membership decision on maturity level of the child.
All of our activities are supervised by trained Firefighter/EMTs. Your children will never be in harms way.
The Youth Fire Corps program is designed to teach many things including leadership, decision making, command and control, and more.
Members are also instructed in many hands on evolutions such as firefighting CPR and first aid.
We also participate in community events such as: Bush Crawfish Festival, Krewe of Bush Mardi Gras Parade, Bush Fall Fest Cajun Cooking Cook Off and The United Way Red Beans & Rice Cook Off
If your interested in hard work and learning while having fun we may just be for you.
